Journal of Hydrology has a gold open access partner title Journal of Hydrology X , sharing the same aims and scope, editorial team, submission system and rigorous peer review.

Journal of Hydrology publishes original research papers and comprehensive reviews in all the subfields of the hydrological sciences Journal of Hydrology publishes original research papers and comprehensive reviews in all the subfields of the hydrological sciences , including water based management and policy issues that impact on economics and society.

These comprise, but are not limited to the physical, chemical, biogeochemical, stochastic and systems aspects of surface and groundwater hydrology , hydrometeorology , hydrogeology and hydrogeophysics. Relevant topics incorporating the insights and methodologies of disciplines such as climatology, water resource systems, ecohydrology, geomorphology, soil science, instrumentation and remote sensing, data and information sciences, civil and environmental engineering are within scope.

Multi- and inter-disciplinary analyses of hydrological problems are invited, specifically ones that broaden the understanding of hydrologic science through integration with social, economic, or behavioural sciences.

The science published in the Journal of Hydrology is relevant to catchment scales rather than exclusively to a local scale or site. Studies focused on urban hydrological issues are included. Submissions focusing on region-specific problems, past and future conditions, analysis, review and solutions, can be submitted to the journal's companion title, Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies. Benefits to authors We also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more.

Physical geography also known as physiography is one of the two fields of geography. Physical geography and earth science journals communicate and document the results of research carried out in universities and various other research institutions. Most journals cover a specific field and publish the research within that field, however unlike human geographers, physical geographers tend to publish in inter-disciplinary journals rather than predominantly geography journal; the research is normally expressed in the form of a scientific paper. Additionally, textbooks, books, and magazines on geography communicate research to laypeople, although these tend to focus on environmental issues or cultural dilemmas. Examples of journals that publish articles from physical geographers are:.

Using remote sensing extended on geological and topographical maps and verified by the field work, we present the flood management and study the geomorphic features of the floodplain of a large, sand bed, untrained but embanked river in order to determine the flood hazard and to predict future flood scenarios. In geomorphological mapping, we focus on the landforms: crevasse channels and splays, flood basin, chute channels, side arms, floodplain channels, dunes and fields of aeolian sand. We base the flood risk assessment on consultations with environmental engineers who design new technical structures that control inundation cut-off walls and lattice levees.

Geomorphologists seek to understand why landscapes look the way they do, to understand landform and terrain history and dynamics and to predict changes through a combination of field observations, physical experiments and numerical modeling. Geomorphologists work within disciplines such as physical geography , geology , geodesy , engineering geology , archaeology , climatology and geotechnical engineering. This broad base of interests contributes to many research styles and interests within the field. Earth 's surface is modified by a combination of surface processes that shape landscapes, and geologic processes that cause tectonic uplift and subsidence , and shape the coastal geography.

Eco-geomorphology: an interdisciplinary approach to river science

Dryland Ecohydrology pp Cite as. Drylands are regions encompassing hyper-arid, arid, semi-arid or sub-humid climatic conditions see also, Chapter 1. They include cold and warm subtropical deserts, savannas, and the Mediterranean environments. This explains the growing scientific interest in the study of drylands.
